  1. I am very disappointed about the short notice we have been given for the meeting to discuss the planning application for a nursery at 41 Springfield Road and I feel let down by MECK for not seeking the views of those of us who live near the property before making a neutral report to the planning portal (though this reads more as a positive position than a neutral one). The main concern of residents who live close by is the increased traffic and congestion that the nursery will create. At busy times (8.00- 9.00 in the morning and 3.00 to 6.00 in the evening) cars back up from the traffic lights with their engines running, and, in addition, cars are often parked on both sides of the road making it difficult to get safely out of our driveways (this is surely an accident waiting to happen) and hard for the bus to make progress along the road. All this will be made much worse when the nursery staff park up and parents use cars to bring their children (it appears that most of the people planning to use the nursery come from other parts of the city and walking, cycling or scooting will not be the main method of transport). All of this additional traffic will make the area less safe and more polluted for the children attending, the nursery staff and local residents. I am Liz Doherty and I live at 47 Springfield Road. I would like MECK to take on board that I am opposed to the planning application and I would like my position to be logged.

  2. I understand the group were consulted as part of the planning application to change 41 Springfield Road into a nursery and MECK put forward a neutral poisiton on it to SCC.

I also understand this will be discussed again on 2 October. Unfortunately my wife and I are away otherwise we would have joined you to let you know that we oppose the application.

The area is already too congested and further traffic for 70 children to get to and from the nursery will worsen living conditions through increased congestion, pollution and be a real Health and Saftey issue for the neighbourhood and the children attending the nursery. We all know how polluted the area can be at rush hour and especially during damp and cold periods. This proposal will significantly make this worse.

If MECK are to supplement its neutral position to the SCC then please make sure those that oppose it are represented too and especially those who will be directly affected by this application

  3. I noticed a vent appeared to have been ordered to be removed, but now a new extraction vent made of corrugated metal is coming out on the road side of Dobbin Hill, just above head height. This needs to be blocked up.
